20. Wildlife at Roma — Birds, Reptiles and What to Watch For

Roma and the surrounding south-west Queensland region is excellent wildlife country, particularly for birdwatchers. Unlike the far north of Queensland, there are no crocodiles in the Roma region — but there are other wildlife considerations for senior travellers:

  • Eastern brown snake: The most dangerous snake in Australia is found throughout south-west Queensland. Always check around your vehicle and camp area before stepping out, particularly in warm weather. Never walk through long grass without stout boots and long trousers.
