When I first bought our van, it came with an EcoFlow Wave air conditioner — a piece of gear I was excited to showcase on our new YouTube channel, Retired to Vanlife. But almost immediately, I ran into a problem: the temperature switch wasn’t working. This is the story of how I reached out to EcoFlow and, through their incredible support, ended up with a brand new upgraded unit.

Why I Needed a New Air Conditioner for Vanlife

Our van was ready for adventures across Australia, but summer temperatures meant the air conditioner was essential. Unfortunately, the original Wave unit had a faulty temperature switch, making it unusable. I wanted it fully functional for both comfort and for featuring in our videos.


Reaching Out to EcoFlow

On December 2, 2025, I emailed EcoFlow AU support:

My wife and I have just begun an exciting new YouTube adventure called Retired to Vanlife… Our van came fitted with an EcoFlow Wave, an incredible piece of gear that I’d love to feature… After we bought the van, the dealer mentioned that the temperature switch isn’t functioning properly. I completely understand this isn’t your responsibility, but I’m hoping you might be able to help…

I asked for guidance on accessing the switch, a manual, and whether a replacement part might be available in Australia.


Initial Support and Challenges

The EcoFlow team responded quickly. They provided a manual from the US archives and asked me to send a photo of the switch, since they couldn’t find the part in their system.

For weeks, I exchanged emails, clarifying details and providing photos, trying to figure out if the original Wave switch could be repaired or replaced. The Wave 1st generation wasn’t commonly serviced anymore, which made the process slower.

The Upgrade Surprise

On January 16, 2026, EcoFlow emailed with an unexpected solution:

We haven’t received any Wave 1st generation repair requests for a long time. Therefore, I directly applied for a Wave 3 replacement for you, upgrading your product to the latest version. Our warehouse should ship it soon.

I was floored. Not only was my original unit being replaced, but I was receiving the latest Wave 3 model, at no extra cost. I immediately thanked them for their exceptional support.

Delivery Drama

 

When the courier arrived, they left the package at the apartment gate without contacting me. Luckily, my neighbor brought it inside before anyone could take it. I informed EcoFlow about the delivery process so future shipments would be handled more carefully.

Installing the EcoFlow Air Conditioner

Once received, I installed the Wave 3 unit in the van. The upgrade process was smooth, and the new unit worked perfectly. I could finally enjoy comfortable temperatures on the road, and I will feature it in our Retire To vanlife videos.

 


Lessons Learned

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help — a polite, detailed email can go a long way.

  2. Document everything — photos, serial numbers, and clear descriptions speed up support.

  3. EcoFlow support is exceptional — their willingness to upgrade me to a newer model went far beyond my expectations.

  4. Delivery matters — always double-check shipping procedures in apartment complexes or shared spaces.

Thanks to EcoFlow, our van is now equipped with a fully functional, brand new Wave 3 air conditioner — just in time for summer adventures. Their support turned what could have been a frustrating situation into a positive story to share with fellow vanlifers.
